Lasagna in Florence.

The Al Gazebo establishment was a nice place to stop and rest for a great authentic Italian dinner. After a long day of traveling through the streets of Venice it was nice to be greeted outside the door by a friendly Venetian gentleman with an appealing menu. The atmosphere of the restaurant was just as enjoyable as the food. This was my first time experiencing freshly cooked authentic Italian lasagna. The taste was unexplainable! The methods in which the dishes are cooked and served were slightly different than the manner in which I had been accustomed. I noticed that certain types of fish were common in some of the pasta dishes. My lasagna dish consisted of layers of creamy noodles, a variety of cheeses, and ham. Previous to this experience I had never tried lasagna with ham as an ingredient and was somewhat skeptical. However, shortly after sinking my teeth into that first bite I was glad that I decided to give it a try.

Pizza in Florence.

While visiting Italy I have found that pizza is a very common and popular choice for any meal of the day. During my visit I had the pleasure of personally experiencing the difference in quality of authentic Italian Pizza versus traditional American. Once you have an Italian slice it’s difficult to re-adjust to the taste of pizza made in the U.S. After trying the pizza there my initial though was how can something with such simple ingredients taste so good. When you think about it the typical ingredients in pizza are dough, tomato sauce, cheese, and in this case ham as an additional topping. However, often times people don’t stop and think about the food preparation process. It’s not the simple combination of ingredients that reflect the taste; it is the authenticity of the preparation process that transforms a simple meal into a quality meal.
